PAX East Coast
Nov 06th, 2009, 11:57am

As a big favor to those of us on the coast of the future (at least an hour ahead!), The guys at Penny Arcade are having a Penny Arcade Expo on the East Coast.  Luke, Jason and I have all talked about going to it and so I figured we should really just hit up all the Nuns and see if we want to just do Boston for this and other fun times.

The dates are March 26th-28th.  All three days are all day events.

If we get our tickets before November 29th then we get them uber cheap, only $45 for all three days.  It's a chance to meet gaming industry insiders, play demos of not yet released games and network with other gaming nerds like us.  If nothing else, it's a fun orgy of video games and a vacation Grin

Naturally if more people from Wisconsin want to go with Jay, driving might save a lot of money for you guys.  It's a sixteen hour drive, so in shifts that's doable in one day.  So taking some vacation days, Thursday, Friday and Monday, would be required.  Otherwise, flying out is always an option too, come in Friday morning and leave Sunday evening.  Would save some vacation days, which might be more valuable than the cash.

Luke and I will probably either drive up or take a bus depending on costs and time constraints.  There's an off chance we'll fly, but we'll debate that.  When you're looking at flights, don't forget that Providence is almost right next to Boston, you might save a lot of money by flying there instead of Boston and then just take a cab or get a rental car.

PA has a deal with local hotels, so if we combine that with cramming four of us in a room (or so, depending on how many people come out), we can also save some chag there too.

Of course, going all three days might not be feasible for everyone, maybe we should plan on just doing the weekend.  But in my opinion, Friday will probably be the best day because not many people will be able to make it.  Making for shorter lines, less crowding and all that good stuff.

I think we need to set a deadline for being in or out by November 22nd to make sure we're registered and have hotels on the cheap.  Let's start the discussions now and maximize the number of Nuns that can come out here.  If nothing else, Luke and I would love to see all you guys Smiley

Yeah, we'll have to hear from Jay for sure what his travel plans are and days off and stuff like that in terms of how all of you CW Nuns could maybe work together to go cheaper.  But driving would be quite the excursion!  Luke and I are actually leaning toward flying right now simply because if we buy tickets now it's only $50 each way.  That's almost less than gas driving there.  Plus then we wouldn't have to spend half a day in a car.

But yeah, Luke and I are pretty much, fer sure, going.

I'm not going to be able to swing PAX in 2010.  It's going to be my last semester of college with nothing but high level real classes.  I'd love to go, but I think I'm going to have to postpone.  Kim and I need to get serious about saving money, too.  We have literally no idea where we'll be moving after I graduate.  Depending where we end up, it could be an expensive move.

I can all but guarantee that I will go to PAX in 2011.  That could be PAX or PAX east depending where I'm living then.  If only there was a PAX in Chicago... That I could swing.  Sorry guys.  Next time.

Super lame!

As a journalism guy with some connections you should seriously look into finding someone to help pay your travel fees and lodging.  You may even be able to get into PAX for free if you're a journalist, I know E3 did that.  I know you'd love it out there and frankly you're still in college for one more semester and are allowed to do something super stupid.

Correction:  I'm a married guy in college and therefore am not allowed to do something super stupid.  I'm pretty sure Kim gets a say in this since I'd basically be spending her money.

I could probably get The Post to pay for my ticket, but I don't think they'd cover any of my travel or lodging expenses.  There's always next year, though.  Seattle is very high (top) on my list of cities I'd like to end up working in.  If that happens, y'all can come visit and stay with us while we go to PAX proper.  Even if that doesn't happen, I all but guarantee I'll be going in 2011.

I've just begged Kim over Facebook to let you come.  You obviously want to do a PAX, we're going to find a way to make this happen Cheesy

Seeing folks would be awesome.

And Chris, Buddy lives in Providence, so we would probably be seeing him while in Boston as well.

Turbine and SCVNGR have combined forces in Boston to put on what is sure to be an epic DDO event on the PAXEast Show floor.

Monk has gone mobile. He is embarking on a DDO themed campaign on the PAX East floor. He has requested your assistance on this dangerous yet rewarding quest. The mission instructions are simple, come to the Turbine booth equipped with your cell phone. It is the only weapon you'll need to combat the PAX dwellers.

Throughout campaign you will visit new territories and learn about their unique offerings. You'll interact with interesting people, but beware, not everyone is on your side. Complete the quest in a heroic fashion and you may be greatly rewarded. (Perhaps with valuable DDO point cards!)

To sign up:
SMS: Text MONK to 728647
Mobile Web: Go to play.scvngr.com and enter in MONK in the "You Say" Box
iPhone or Android App: Download the SCVNGR App, get into the app, search for MONK, download the game, and play!

See everyone there!
