The government already pays about half of the healthcare expenses in this country, even with the "government takeover" that democrats are accused of wanting with the healthcare bill.

Also, the last line of the story is something that I've heard before but still hits home. "Other economically advanced countries - including those with government-run health care - also have problems with costs. But the U.S. spends much more per person than any other nation, without getting better results in life expectancy and many other measures of health."

She is, very early on, leading the Republicans in polls of whom they'd like to see run in 2012. A lot can change (Hillary was leading at this time during the last election cycle), but the "base" loves Palin, Democrats love Palin (because she's so vurnerable) and the press loves Palin because she's a universal story that anyone can plug into. Do not be surprised if she's the 2012 candidate and do not be surprised if she makes Dukakis look like a strong candidate with lots to say.

Fantastic essay. Seriously, one of the best things I've read for a while in politics. A response to the selfish, Libertarian, Ron Paul zealots that run in lock step with the tea baggers on how it's "my money, dag nabbit!" and all the bullshit. An eloquent response to an inane proclamation is a rare thing, and this guy nails it.
